Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What kind of shutters are suggested for a coastal style home?  What about a Federal-style home?

A. Looking for a coastal style; choose the 4 ½” louver single panel configuration. Wanting a Federal-style feel, choose the 1¾ louver with a 4 panel double hung configuration.

Q. How do you cover large openings?

A. When covering large openings, or an opening where you wish to have the shutters fully retract from the window or door, select a manufacturer who carries track product lines.

Q. Does window size affect the type of shutter I choose?

A.1-7/8" louvers are suggested for smaller windows and more privacy. 2-1/2" louvers are suggested for small to medium-size windows. 3-1/2" plantation-type louvers are suggested for large windows and great views when open.

Q. Are shutters considered a home improvement and do they allow a tax break?

A. According to the Internal Revenue Service, shutters are the only window treatment that can be considered a capital improvement.  Whether used on windows, French doors or patio doors, wood shutters add real value to your home. You can even add the cost of the shutters to your new home mortgage.
