Buying Tips

  • Deal with a company you can trust.  One that has longevity, a specialty and is larger in size.

  • Read the Warranty – It should include both product’s material and labor

  • Measurements and Layout - Skilled estimator needs to come to your home and measure.

  • Factory Direct is Best.  Deal with a company that actually builds the shutters.

  • Quality Installation – Using a company that does its own installation rather than uses subcontractors, will be responsible and accountable.

  • The Desired Look – Plantation shutters come in 2 finishes – stained wood & painted.  If you like the painted look, it is recommended to use polywood shutters.  Wood-like appearance.  They have a baked-on acrylic lacquer that won’t peel or crack.

  • Budget - don’t get caught by the price games many shutter companies play.  Many like to advertise the lowest cost per square foot but they charge extra for frames or add-ons that you end up needing. In the end they’re really not a bargain

  • Quality Material – Solid wood, wood composites or Synthetics.

  • Construction - Use of tension pins, using stainless steel, and epoxy coated staples.  Some high-end shutters use either dowel pins or mortise and tenon construction to hold rails to stiles.

  • Independent Testing – Testing for durability, heat resistance, fading, cracking and insulation properties.
